The studio

We draw landscapes for the lives already happening there.

Field & Form is a fictional Houston design-build studio built around careful observation, durable decisions, and a close relationship between the drawing table and the field.

Landscape designers working through a planting plan in the studio

The work begins by noticing

Where the shade lands. Which door everyone uses. What gets carried outside.

Good landscape design is not a collection of features. It is a sequence of small decisions about comfort, movement, weather, privacy, upkeep, and the view you pass every day.

Our fictional team keeps design and construction in the same conversation so the built result does not lose the reasons that shaped the plan.

Four things stay on the table.

01

Use

The yard has to support actual mornings, meals, pets, children, guests, and quiet.

02

Climate

Heat, rain, soil, shade, and seasonal pressure are design materials, not afterthoughts.

03

Time

We plan for the installation, the first year, and the mature shape of the garden.

04

Care

The maintenance appetite of the household belongs in the plan from the start.

Local knowledge, wider references

A Houston garden can feel specific without feeling themed.

We look closely at regional materials, native plant communities, familiar porch patterns, and the practical intelligence of shaded Gulf Coast landscapes. The goal is a place that belongs to its house and climate without turning either into a costume.
